From the Red Drum Discussion Board
I dined at The Red Drum Gastro Pub last night in the wine room. What a great room for an intimate dinner party or corporate event. The room alone was a great setting for the unforgettable meal we were about to devour! Our evening started with tasty margaritas at the bar. I definatley reccomend this drink to anyone looking for a refreshing, not lime green straight from the mix, drink! After our coctail we headed towards the wine room where we were immediatly greated by our very attentive wait staff. A sampling of various appetizers were passed around the table. We had calamari, beef taquitos, and homeade tortilla strips topped with fresh salsa, guacamole and crab meat! What a treat! Everything was delicious! We were then served a refreshing salad to get us ready for our entres. I had the grouper with the green beans and mashed potatoes. The plate had a lemon sauce poured over all of its contents...very fresh and light! We were served a white wine and a red wine to savour with our meal. For desert I had Hot Chocolate....not the drink. This is a Red Drum favorite for me! The desert is a chocolate molten cake served warm with hot chocolate inside and a scoup of vanilla bean ice cream on a sugar wafer!
As always Red Drum has out done itself. From presentation to service everything was memorable. I can't wait to return!
Red Drum is one of my favorites. I live on Folly and drive ALL the way to Mount Pleasant to eat at this restaurant! I enjoy the Campeche and the margaritas the most! The enchiladas are just ridiculously tasty, too. I hate sharing this with everybody because i want to keep this place a secret, but the word is already out... Red Drum is surely one of Charleston's very best restaurants. GREAT ambience, too.
Here's another "gloating" review, or perhaps Skilletlikker meant "glowing"....I'm not a food expert to say the least, I just like what tastes good. And I loved Red Drum, as did everyone with whom I was dining. Between the four of us we tried the scallops, grouper, venison sausage (the special), ceviche and crab appetizers. Each and every one of us was nothing less than delighted with everything we put in our mouths. The ceviche was the best I've ever tasted and the grouper I had for my meal was cooked to perfection. I think one of the best ways to judge a restaurant is the quality of their side dishes as well, not just the main dish. The potatoes and green beans were absolutely perfect as well. I would highly recommend this restaurant to anyone. If you don't enjoy it, I feel terribly sorry for you! And just to clarify, I don't work at Red Drum!
